Meet Tom Surman
Tom is a South Australia-based fund manager and financial services executive with deep expertise in investment management, risk frameworks and fund governance.
He is the founder and Portfolio Manager of Adaptive Alpha Research, an ASIC licensed quantitative hedge fund operating across Australian and United States entity structures. His experience spans the full lifecycle of fund management from establishing regulatory and compliance frameworks under Australian financial services law, through to portfolio construction, systematic investment strategy design and ongoing risk oversight.
Tom’s work at Adaptive Alpha Research has provided extensive practical experience in fund governance, leverage and risk management, investor reporting and the operational requirements of managing a regulated investment vehicle. His background in quantitative finance reflects a disciplined, analytical approach to capital allocation and the pursuit of risk-adjusted returns.
Complementing his investment management experience, Tom is also the founder of Vault Accounting and Henedroit, providing him with strong commercial grounding in financial reporting, business operations and fiduciary responsibility.
Tom brings a rigorous understanding of investment structures, fund-level governance and financial risk management, supporting the responsible stewardship of capital on behalf of investors.
Tom holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) from the University of Adelaide, a Diploma of Chartered Accounting from Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) and a Diploma of Financial Planning from Kaplan Professional.
